Community Interviews: Dragons Claw 69
Catch up with our latest Community Interview with fellow Xbox.com Moderator and all round good guy, Dragons Claw69!
What is your gamertag and what made you choose it?
My gamer tag is dragons claw69. I’d like to say that there is a really touching meaningful story behind it but sadly there’s not
I bought my 360 and LIVE from a retail store I worked in and after a really bad day in there I decided to try and set it up. Over stimulated and in the mood to kill dead things the only original tags I could think of were derogatory if not downright libelous towards my now mercifully former employer:-D I just used my email and it was a name I had from IM. It usually gets shortened to claw, dc or draggy (occasionally those make way for names I couldn’t possibly repeat here hehe). The 69 at the end is my star sign for all those curious/abusing the file complaint option
How long have you been gaming and how did you get into it?
Lets just say a very long time. I googled the first game (Battle For Antwerp) I can remember seeing my Dad play and it was released in 1985 so……yeah a wee while
I’m going to add the disclaimer that I’m still under 30 too
My Dad and my uncles played it and I watched them and took it on from there. Lets see, I’ve played the Spectrum, Atari, Commodore 64, Master System, GameGear, Mega Drive (Genesis), Sega CD, PC, PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP, Xbox and Xbox 360
Comparing your first memories of gaming, to what you experience now, how do
they differ?
My first memories of gaming were PC gaming on an old Toshiba that used the 8 inch floppy discs as well as tapes and having to use syntax commands. That was long before the internet was available and DVD’s weren’t even a twinkle in their designer’s eye so a lot has changed from playing on a PC typing run commands, using tapes for games, joysticks with a single fire button and playing on a black and white TV. Now we have games on DVD, hard drives, wireless controllers and HD TVs to play on. Of course I’m still using a 20Gb hard drive and standard def TV so for many people I’m sure that’s still gaming in the Dark Ages
What’s your favourite game on the Xbox 360 and what makes it your favourite?
I’m tempted to say the GRAW series because that’s what got me into the 360. I’m a long time Tom Clancy game fan and when I seen the difference between the 360 version and the Xbox version I couldn’t resist. It was the first game I played and the first achievement I unlocked if I remember correctly too. More recently though its been the Halo series and that’s coming from a recently converted Halo-hater. Bungie just seem to have put a huge amount of effort into the multiplayer and it shows with so many game modes, the matchmaking that is second to none, threatre, forge and they don’t hesitate to ban hammer anyone behaving they way they shouldn’t. Needless to say I’m looking forward to Reach
What about genres? Do you have a specific type of game you like to play, or are
you happy playing a variety of titles?
FPS. Without a doubt my favourite genre. Its fun to get a group of friends together or set up some custom games for a laugh. Other than that I’d say RPG games because they’re a nice change of pace when I want a break from FPS. I’m not a huge fan of sports games and the last enjoyable racing games I played were WRC and Need For Speed Most Wanted
What do you love about the Xbox 360?
The ability to play online with a variety of people and talk to them across several games in party chat. Also just some of the people I’ve met through playing it, by and large I think LIVE has a great community. As well as that, and I know this goes for all consoles, I know that when I buy a game the worst thing I have to do is download an update. I don’t have to get new RAM, install drivers, buy a new GPU, tinker with settings etc.
If you could make any changes to Xbox LIVE or the Forums, what would they be
and why?
Less trolls
For the general end of things I would like to see a little more room for forum sigs, maybe a button to show if a member is online, a pop up similar to IM to let you know who is online through the forums or when you receive a message. I’d also like to see an achievement tracker so we can see how close we are to those achievements. Part of me would like to see things like custom member titles but sadly I can see that being abused. For the LIVE service just the ability to add a small description when filing a complaint to help the PET decide whats an important complaint and whats less important. Someone cursing repeatedly pales beside someone who’s screaming racist abuse. Also an automatic ban for the use of the phrase “Cool story bro” or anything like it.
What do you think about Kinect, and will you be purchasing the device?
I’m curious to see how it’s received. I want to wait closer to launch until more information about it comes out. In the flat its just me on the 360 so it would depend on whether there are many multiplayer games that I could play with friends across LIVE.
Do you utilise your Xbox 360 for anything other than gaming?
I’m going to be boring and say no here. Other than gaming I use it to talk to friends but its main use is gaming. I already neglect my Facebook page through my laptop and I don’t think the world needs to know my every move or thought so Twitters not used either, if you want to stalk me at least put the effort in and do it old school
I use the laptop for the computer related stuff and the 360 for gaming.
What do you do when you’re not playing Xbox 360?
I work as a clerical officer for an executive non-departmental public body, which is a fancier title than the job itself
Otherwise I’m with friends and family or moderating the forums. Occasionally I even multi task. I enjoy music too so last time Metallica were playing here (yes folks Metallica is music
) I went to watch them play, they had some great support from Volbeat. The other band were so bad I scrubbed their name from my memory.
If you could pick any Xbox 360 gaming character, who would you be and why?
That’s a tough question.**looks at recent played games** I’m sure almost everyone would choose Master Chief (armour, guns and just about impossible to kill unless I’m controlling him) or Commander Shepard from Mass Effect because of the way you can choose the dialogue and play how you see fit. Honestly I’m torn between Shepard and my character from Saints Row 2 because (a) he doesn’t give a **** and, (b) he’s dressed as freaking leprechaun
Who is the most memorable person or situation you’ve encountered on LIVE?
I think we’ve all had the 12 year old we’ve had to suffer because Mum & Dad treated the 360 as a baby sitting service but none of those strike me as memorable. Plenty of other moments I won’t repeat here too (occasionally I act as fly paper for freaks) Any time I get online with friends is always memorable and entertaining. Off the top of my head Saints Row 2. A few of us were playing and one of the NPC’s walking past said “Anyone seen the leprechaun say ‘Yeeee-ah’ ” they were in convulsions laughing and they had to send me the link so I could see for myself ![]()
The memorable people know who they are so I’ll spare their blushes by naming them publicly.
Is there any game or accessory that is not available for the 360 that you would like to see?
An ATM that gives you money but doesn’t deduct it from your account.
Your a fellow Xbox.com Moderator. Can you tell our readers what this involves and why you do it?
I’m just awaiting the hate mail
Basically the forum moderators are volunteers who spend some of their free time making sure the forums run as smoothly as possible. Sometimes its pointing someone in the right direction if he or she looking for information or taking action against threads or members that have violated the Code of Conduct. So if you see threads locked, posts removed and ninja edits then a moderator has been at work. A lot of what we do does go on behind the scenes so just because someone doesn’t see action being taken doesn’t mean that nothing is happening. The secret to not getting in trouble is to play nice, we can’t take action against you if you haven’t broken the rules. It really is that simple. A lot of what’s in the Code Of Conduct is common sense. You wouldn’t walk up to a stranger and nonchalantly tell them that they should fornicate themselves with a barbwire wrapped umbrella and equally its not allowed on the forums. What we do get asked a lot is the selection process for becoming a moderator and it really is quite simple you see **sound of door getting kicked in and muffled cries as dragons claw69 is dragged away**
